Message Nick →The Hemel Nitro is an automatic pilot's watch designed for enthusiasts who appreciate robust construction and clear legibility. Featuring a distinctive light blue dial and a classic jubilee bracelet, this timepiece offers a blend of vintage charm and modern reliability.
Crafted from durable 316L stainless steel, the case is both brushed and polished, providing a sophisticated finish. The domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating ensures excellent visibility, while the screw-down crown and caseback contribute to its impressive 200-meter water resistance.
Powered by a reliable Seiko Epson YN55A automatic movement, the Nitro offers both automatic and manual winding, a hacking second hand, and a substantial 40-hour power reserve. The BGW9 lume on the domed dial ensures readability in low-light conditions.
How it works
What this watch’s key specs actually mean on the wrist.
A weighted rotor spins as your wrist moves, winding the mainspring so the watch never needs a battery. The seconds hand sweeps in a smooth glide rather than ticking. Wear it regularly and it keeps running; set it down for a day or two and you simply give the crown a few winds. It is the traditional, collectible heart of mechanical watchmaking.
Rated to 200m / 20 ATM — a true dive-capable rating. It handles swimming, snorkeling and recreational scuba diving without a second thought.
Fully wound, this movement stores about 40 hours of running time when it's off your wrist. Enough to comfortably carry it overnight without resetting the time. Power reserve is simply how long the mainspring keeps the watch going once you stop wearing it.
The case measures 40mm across (excluding the crown) — the classic, do-anything size — balanced on most wrists and just as at home with a suit as with a tee. Case size is the single biggest factor in how a watch actually wears, so it's worth picturing against your own wrist.
Stainless steel is the all-rounder for good reason: tough, corrosion-resistant, and easy to refinish if it ever picks up a scratch. 316L is the marine-grade alloy used across quality watchmaking — durable enough for daily life and smart enough to dress up.
