Now, for their fourth consecutive year as the Official Timekeeper of the legendary Tour Auto, Baltic has unveiled a set of instruments that is less a wristwatch and more a pure, mechanical love letter to historic motorsport: the Rally Timer Tour Auto 2026 Limited Edition.
In the world of independent watchmaking, few brands have captured the hearts of enthusiasts quite like Baltic. With a design language deeply rooted in the past yet executed with modern precision, the French brand has carved out a formidable reputation since its founding in 2017.
This isn't just another watch; it's a piece of functional, dashboard-mounted art designed for the cabins of the classic automobiles that tackle one of the world's most prestigious road rallies. Let's get the loupe out and examine every detail of this exceptional, limited-edition set.

Explore the Baltic Rally Timer

To understand this release, one must first understand Baltic. The brand was founded by Etienne Malec, a man whose passion for horology was sparked by a discovery: his late father's extensive collection of vintage timepieces. This personal history is the bedrock of Baltic's "neo-vintage philosophy"—creating watches that feel like treasured heirlooms from the 1940s and 50s, but are built to modern standards of quality and reliability.
With design based in Paris and assembly in the historic French watchmaking town of Besançon, Baltic maintains a transparent approach to its production, a practice that has earned it a loyal following. Launching via a highly successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017, the brand quickly became known for its accessible price points, keen aesthetic sensibilities, and a series of sell-out limited editions and collaborations.

The partnership with the Tour Auto is a natural fit for Baltic. The Tour Auto is the modern revival of the Tour de France Automobile, a historic and grueling road race that first ran in 1899. Revived in 1992 by Peter Auto, it's a multi-day rally for historic vehicles, blending timed stages on closed roads in and iconic French circuits. For 2026, the rally will see competitors navigate a demanding route from Paris to Biarritz.

For the fourth consecutive year, Baltic will take on the role of Official Timekeeper and accompany the competitors... To mark the occasion, we have created a Rally Timer (stopwatch and dashclock) inspired by the historic colours of the Tour de France Automobile.
This year, for the first time, Baltic has dedicated its entire collaborative release to the rally timer itself, forgoing a traditional wristwatch to focus on the essential instruments of classic rallying. It’s a bold move that speaks volumes about the brand's commitment to authentic motorsport heritage.
The Instruments: A Specification BreakdownLimited to just 300 numbered sets, the Rally Timer Tour Auto 2026 consists of two distinct mechanical instruments, both housed in robust 60mm cases and mounted on a brushed steel dashboard plate.

The star of the set is undoubtedly the stopwatch. At the heart of this instrument beats a manually-wound Hanhart 122 flyback caliber. Hanhart is a legendary name in the world of chronographs and pilot's watches, and their movements are renowned for their robustness and precision.

The flyback function is crucial for rally timing. It allows the user to reset the timer and start a new timing session with a single push of the reset button, without needing to first stop the chronograph. This is essential for timing consecutive stages or laps accurately. The stopwatch features a large, blued central seconds hand and a 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock. The power reserve for this specialized movement is 6 hours.
Complementing the stopwatch is a matching dashclock, ensuring the rally crew can track the current time—critical for reaching checkpoints and stage starts on schedule. This piece is powered by a manually-wound ENLOONG 6497 movement, a caliber based on the classic Unitas 6497 pocket watch architecture. This large, reliable movement is a perfect fit for the 60mm case, allowing for a clean and legible dial layout with a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock. It boasts a healthy power reserve of 42 hours.
The aesthetic is pure vintage motorsport. The satin light blue dial is a nod to the historic colors of French racing, providing a beautiful, low-glare backdrop for the crisp markings. The off-white "azurage" subdials add texture and depth, while blued steel hands ensure excellent legibility.
The choice of a highly-domed Hesalite crystal is both period-correct and practical; in the event of an impact, Hesalite tends to crack rather than shatter, a crucial safety feature inside a rally car's cockpit. The oversized, fluted crowns at 12 o'clock are designed for easy operation, even with driving gloves on.
The casebacks offer their own unique details. The stopwatch is engraved with a map of the 2026 Paris-to-Biarritz route, while the dashclock features the Tour Auto logo and the individual limited edition number out of 300.
With the Rally Timer Tour Auto 2026, Baltic has created more than just a time-telling device; they have built an experience. It's a tactile, mechanical tool designed for a specific, demanding purpose, evoking an era of roaring engines and analog precision. For classic car enthusiasts and watch collectors alike, this limited set represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of functional art that bridges the worlds of horology and historic motorsport in the most authentic way possible.
