The Ressence Type 10 DN arrives with a price of CHF 45,000 (approximately $48,260 USD) and a significant technical update for the brand. Limited to just 100 pieces and officially available starting November 2026, it is the first oil-filled Ressence powered by an in-house movement, the RW-04 calibre. This release packages the company's signature fluid dynamics into a seamless 41.5mm titanium case.
The Type 10 represents a move toward full mechanical integration for Ressence. Where earlier models built upon existing movement bases, this watch uses a proprietary engine designed specifically for its unique display architecture. The result is a complex machine with a simple, intuitive face.
At its core is the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS), a display module where discs rotate to indicate the time. This system is submerged in oil, which eliminates visual distortion and creates the illusion of graphics projected directly onto the sapphire crystal. The entire object is designed to feel like a single, seamless form.

Ressence describes the design of the Type 10 DN as a "monochromatic monolith." The case, dial, and integrated strap share a deep blue "Dark Night" tone. This approach aims to visually dissolve the boundaries between components, creating a unified object.
The case measures 41.5mm in diameter and is crafted from polished Grade 5 titanium. This alloy is chosen for its high strength-to-weight ratio, allowing the entire watch to weigh just 82 grams despite its mechanical complexity. Machining and polishing Grade 5 titanium is more difficult than working with stainless steel.

True to Ressence's philosophy, the Type 10 has no crown. Time-setting functions are managed through the caseback. This maintains the smooth, pebble-like shape of the case and forces a more deliberate interaction with the watch.

Winding and setting happen via a mechanism integrated into the back of the watch. The Ressence Compression Lock System secures the case, providing a water resistance of 5 ATM (50 meters). The RW-04 movement is visible through a donut-shaped sapphire window on the caseback.
This 5 ATM rating is suitable for daily exposure to water, like handwashing or rain. It is not designed for swimming or diving, distinguishing its purpose from more robustly sealed tool watches.

At the heart of the Type 10 is the Ressence Werk RW-04, a self-winding caliber designed and developed in-house. It consists of 252 individual components and uses two barrels to provide a 60-hour power reserve. This is the first time an in-house Ressence movement has been used in one of their oil-filled watches.
The architecture of the RW-04 moves away from the traditional round shape of most watch movements. Instead, it features a distinctive triangular layout defined by the two barrels and a central balance wheel. This structure was developed specifically to integrate with the ROCS display system.
The movement operates in a sealed chamber filled with air. It does not directly connect to the hands or discs you see on the dial. Its job is to generate the timekeeping information and transmit it through a non-physical barrier.
The Type 10 operates with two distinct, sealed environments. The 252-component RW-04 movement beats in air, while the 196-component ROCS 10 display glides in oil, connected only by magnetic force.

The dial of the Type 10 is the ROCS 10 module, a self-contained unit with 196 components, including 49 gears and 47 jewels. This entire assembly is submerged in oil and serves as the watch's animated display. The continuously shifting layout of the ROCS 10 is the kind of kinetic display that will make any dialhead look twice. It explicitly features a second time zone, a 120-second runner, and an oil temperature indicator designated by color.
Motion is transferred from the dry RW-04 movement to the wet ROCS 10 module via magnetic transmission. Micro-magnets on a disc driven by the movement mirror a corresponding disc inside the oil chamber. This system allows the two modules to be completely sealed from one another.

The minute track is a key design element. It is composed of 24 titanium segments that alternate between sandblasted inserts filled with luminous paint and larger, linearly brushed surfaces. The direction of the brushing shifts by 30 degrees between segments, creating a dynamic play of light as the watch moves.
The oil fill is critical to the watch's legibility. It cancels out the light refraction between the crystal and the dial, making the indicators appear to be on the very surface of the glass. This creates an exceptionally clear display from nearly any angle.
The Type 10 builds on principles Ressence has developed over more than a decade. We've previously covered The Ressence Type 5: A Dive Watch from the Future, which applied the oil-filled ROCS system to the specific demands of a dive watch, including extreme pressure resistance.

The Type 10 takes that same foundational technology—the magnetic transmission, the orbital display—and presents it in a form the brand positions as a "daily companion." The focus shifts from pure tool-watch function to a more integrated, seamless aesthetic. The introduction of the in-house RW-04 caliber is the main technical step forward.
The Type 10 is a complex watch with 538 total components. This includes 47 jewels and 8 ball bearings distributed between the movement and display modules. Its architecture is a direct result of its function.

The watch is set and wound using a system integrated into the caseback. This eliminates the need for a traditional crown, preserving the watch's seamless, pebble-like shape and requiring a more hands-on interaction from the owner.

The oil inside the ROCS display module serves two main functions. Optically, it eliminates reflection and distortion, making the dial appear to be printed on the surface of the crystal for perfect legibility. Mechanically, the fluid compensates for pressure changes and lubricates the display components.
No, it is not. The Type 10 has a water resistance rating of 5 ATM, which is equivalent to 50 meters. This makes it suitable for everyday wear and exposure to splashes or rain, but not for swimming or diving.
The official retail price for the Ressence Type 10 DN (Dark Night) model is CHF 45,000 (excluding taxes), which converts to approximately $48,260 USD.
ROCS stands for Ressence Orbital Convex System. It is the brand's patented time display module, where indications for hours, minutes, and other functions are shown on rotating discs that orbit each other within a main disc. It replaces a traditional static dial and hands.
The Ressence Type 10 is designed for a collector focused on avant-garde engineering and novel user interfaces. By integrating its in-house RW-04 caliber with the established oil-filled ROCS system, it marks a key step for the brand towards complete technical independence and a more refined design language.
