Trafford Watch Co. is releasing a special edition of its Daytripper model priced at $799. The Violet Crown Daytripper uses a deep blue, pink, and yellow color scheme inspired by the unique atmospheric haze that sometimes appears over the brand’s home base of Austin, Texas during sunset.
Behind the colorful dial is a clever mechanical choice. The watch runs on a modified Miyota 9075, a true GMT caliber, but with the GMT hand removed. This creates a simple three-hand layout that retains the movement's most useful travel feature: an independently adjustable hour hand.

This release continues a formula we’ve seen from the brand in other Daytripper models. It pairs a distinct, textured dial with a mechanically interesting movement, packaged in a compact, daily-wear case. The initial launch on November 2, 2026, will consist of 200 numbered units.

The watch gets its name from a local Austin phenomenon. The city’s nickname, "The Violet Crown," comes from a pink and purple glow created by the interaction of sunset light with the area's specific atmospheric conditions and topography.
Trafford translates this into a gradient dial that shifts from deep blue to vibrant pink, with highlights of yellow. The dial surface has a double-brushed texture designed to create a sunray effect, playing with light as the watch moves. Applied, polished numerals provide depth against the textured background.
A thin pink ring traces the outermost edge of the dial. This element interacts with the double-domed sapphire crystal, causing the color to appear and disappear depending on the viewing angle. For low-light visibility, BGW9 Swiss Super-LumiNova is applied to the hands and the outer chapter ring.
A Traveler's Caliber in Disguise: The Trafford Modified 9075
The movement inside the Violet Crown Daytripper is the Miyota 9075, but not as you typically see it. This caliber is what fellow dialheads call a "true" or "flyer" GMT. Its key feature is an hour hand that can be set independently in one-hour jumps, forwards or backwards, without stopping the seconds hand.
This is the ideal setup for changing time zones. However, a traditional GMT watch includes a fourth hand and a 24-hour track to display a second time zone. Trafford has opted to remove the GMT hand entirely.
By removing the fourth hand, Trafford turns a GMT movement into a simple three-hand engine with a stealthy travel function. You can still jump the local hour when you land in a new time zone, but the dial remains clean and uncluttered.

This approach isn't new for the brand. We saw this same clever movement modification in the standard Trafford Daytripper, establishing it as a core part of the model's identity. It’s a practical use of The Miyota 9075, a movement that has made this functionality accessible to a wider range of brands.
The base caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides a 42-hour power reserve. Trafford regulates the movements to an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per day. An exhibition caseback made of sapphire shows the movement.
The Violet Crown Daytripper is built on a 316L stainless steel case measuring 39.5mm in diameter. The lug-to-lug distance is a compact 46mm, and the total thickness is 12mm. These dimensions position the watch for versatile daily wear on a wide range of wrist sizes.

Both the case and the optional bracelet are treated with a protective hardening coating to improve scratch resistance. The front crystal is a double-domed sapphire with an anti-reflective coating on the interior surface to reduce glare. Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM, equivalent to 100 meters, making it suitable for swimming and general surface water activities.
The watch comes standard on a 20mm Italian leather strap. This pairing frames the watch as a more casual, colorful piece. An optional 316L stainless steel bracelet is available for an additional $149.
The bracelet features the same hardening coating as the case. It includes quick-release solid end links for easy strap changes without tools. For fit, the clasp incorporates an on-the-fly micro-adjustment system, allowing for small size changes throughout the day.

The Trafford Violet Crown Daytripper is a three-hand watch with a practical travel function derived from a modified "true GMT" movement. Positioned under $800, it combines this clever mechanical approach with a highly expressive, locally inspired dial and a robust set of material specifications, including a hardened steel case and sapphire crystals.
It is a special edition of Trafford Watch Co.'s Daytripper model. It features a blue, pink, and yellow gradient dial inspired by the "Violet Crown" sunsets in Austin, Texas. It uses a modified automatic movement that allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently for travel.
The Miyota 9075 is an automatic "true GMT" movement with an independently adjustable hour hand and a fourth GMT hand. In the Daytripper, Trafford removes the GMT hand but retains the jumping hour functionality, creating a simpler three-hand watch that is still convenient for changing time zones.
Mechanically, it is powered by a true GMT caliber. Functionally, it is not a traditional GMT watch because it lacks the 24-hour hand and scale needed to track a second time zone simultaneously. It is better described as a three-hand travel watch.
The watch is priced at $799 USD on a leather strap. An optional matching stainless steel bracelet with a hardening coating is available for an additional $149.
The initial launch will consist of 200 numbered units. The brand has stated that a follow-up pre-order may be offered if the first batch sells out, so the final production number could exceed 200.
