It's not every month that a watch inspired by an 80s car dashboard tops our charts, but July & August were those kinds of months. We saw an absolute explosion of creativity from independent brands, many of them new to VELOCE, proving that the most exciting things are happening outside the usual Swiss powerhouses.
If you thought watches had to have round dials and three hands, this month was a wake-up call. We saw a huge surge in brands rethinking what it means to tell time, and collectors are clearly here for it.
Leading the charge was our most-viewed post on the Xeric Volta Double Retrograde, a kinetic lightshow for your wrist. It's a wild, unapologetic design that really captured the community's imagination.

The theme continued with brands like Mandetbrote, new on VELOCE, whose Secret Orbital II uses a unique non-circular track for its hour indicator. Even materials got weird, with the OVD MØ:ARK using an actual sculpted concrete dial to mimic the moon's surface.

The value proposition in the microbrand space has never been stronger. We're seeing specs that were reserved for multi-thousand-dollar watches just a few years ago now appearing at truly accessible prices.
The poster child for this trend has to be the Minus-8 Diver GMT, a full titanium automatic GMT on a titanium bracelet for $598. Let that sink in. It’s a spec sheet that honestly feels like a typo.

Another newcomer, Islander Watches, made a huge impression. They're delivering incredible "grab-and-go" value with pieces like the $349 Islander Saltaire solar diver and the $429 Islander Northport, which packs a hi-beat movement.

And for those who appreciate Swiss mechanics, the Ba111od's Chapter 7 delivered a fully skeletonized automatic for just $1,295, shaking up what we thought was possible at that price point.

While independents focused on value, the big players went deep on limited editions with very specific stories. It was a month of high-concept, high-dollar tributes aimed squarely at die-hard enthusiasts.
TAG Heuer was all over this, dropping both the forged carbon Formula 1 Chronograph x Gulf and the $10,500 Carrera ‘Team Ikuzawa’. These aren't for the casual buyer; they're for collectors who know the racing history inside and out.

Bremont, a new brand for us, debuted a fascinating piece: the Altitude MB Meteor 'Felix the Cat'. It looks like a character watch, but it's a military-spec tool engineered to survive being ejected from a fighter jet. That's a story you won't forget.
Even the Swatch group played this game. The Omega x Swatch "1969" Mission to the Moon uses a solid gold dial and extreme scarcity to turn an accessible platform into a grail-level hunt for just 1,969 people.

The most shocking number this month wasn't a price tag, but a spec sheet: a full titanium automatic GMT with a bracelet for just $598. The game has officially changed.
The market is splitting. On one side, microbrands are delivering insane specs and wild designs for under a grand. On the other, heritage brands are selling five-figure narratives. The middle ground feels quieter than ever, forcing collectors to choose: value-packed tool, or high-concept story?
This is just a snapshot of a very busy month in the watch world. We covered everything from entry-level field watches to museum-quality masterpieces. Dive into the full articles linked above to get the complete picture on each of these fascinating releases.

I originally started VELOCE to put my skills to work, hone my app design and web development practices, and dive deeper into the world of horology. I wanted to learn more about the watches, the brands, and the incredible people behind them - the creators, the designers, and the collectors. I love discovering new timepieces and sharing their stories with the world. VELOCE is my ultimate passion project and hobby, the creative space I head to after my full-time job to build something I truly care about.
