But when that watch has only one hand, a rubberized steel case, and comes in colors that look like they belong on a 1990s windbreaker, you have to pay attention. Luch, or the Minsk Watch Plant, has been around since 1953. It’s a brand with real Soviet-era horological DNA, once famous for its ultra-thin Caliber 2209 movements. Today, they are best known for their signature *однострелочник* (one-hander) watches, and the Twist is the most audacious version yet.
The Luch Twist Collection: Soviet Heritage, Modern Rebellion
The core idea of the Luch Twist is simple: it’s a "Big color one-hander." It ditches the minute and seconds hands for a more relaxed, philosophical approach to time. You don’t know if it’s 10:47 or 10:49, and that’s precisely the point.
This isn’t a new concept for Luch, but the execution here is miles away from their vintage-inspired models. The Twist leans into a bold, graphic design language that feels more like something from a modern design studio than a historic watch factory. The combination of a serious mechanical movement with a playful, almost toy-like exterior is where this collection finds its unique charm.
A Case Study in Texture
The case is where things get really interesting. It’s stainless steel, but you wouldn’t know it by looking or touching. It's covered in a matte, rubberized "soft-touch" coating, a finish you’re more likely to find on high-end electronics than on a mechanical watch.

Inside, Luch uses its caliber 2638M, which is based on the Miyota movement. This is a pragmatic and welcome decision. The Miyota 8-series is a proven Japanese workhorse, offering reliability and serviceability without driving the cost into the stratosphere.
Luch hasn't published key specs like power reserve or frequency for its specific 2638M configuration. Rather than guess based on the stock Miyota, we'll just note them as TBC. What matters is that this is a true mechanical, self-winding watch, not a quartz piece hiding in a cool case.
The Mint version is arguably the most striking of the trio. The entire case is rendered in a soft, pastel mint green, a color you almost never see in watchmaking. It’s paired with a crisp white silicone strap, creating a high-contrast look that feels fresh and summery.

If the Mint is summer, the Yellow reference is pure sunshine. This model features a bright, saturated yellow soft-touch case. Like the Mint version, it’s paired with a white silicone strap for a clean, sharp contrast.
The dial design is consistent across the family, with its layered geometry and playful color palette. On this reference, the yellow case brings out the corresponding warm tones in the dial graphics. This is a watch that makes absolutely no attempt to be subtle, and it's all the better for it.
The strap is equipped with quick-release spring bars, a feature every enthusiast appreciates. It makes strap changes effortless, encouraging you to experiment with different looks without reaching for a tool.
The White model offers a slightly more restrained, but no less interesting, take on the Twist concept. Here, the soft-touch case is a clean, architectural white. This version is paired with a striking blue silicone strap, flipping the script from the other two models.
This color combination gives it an almost nautical feel. The white case acts as a neutral canvas, allowing the complex, multi-colored dial and the vibrant blue strap to take center stage. It’s probably the most versatile of the three, though "versatile" is a relative term for a watch this unconventional.
Like its siblings, it has a 5 ATM (50 meters) water resistance rating. This is perfectly adequate for daily life—you can wash your hands or get caught in the rain without worry. Just don't take it swimming.
The Luch Twist is a fantastic proposition. For $569, you get a well-specified mechanical watch with a sapphire crystal and a genuinely unique design from a brand with real history. This is for the enthusiast who already has a diver and a dress watch, and now wants something purely for fun that still has horological credibility.
Final Thoughts and Specifications
The Luch Twist isn't trying to compete with your everyday tool watch. It’s a design object, a conversation starter, and a statement piece that happens to be powered by a proper automatic movement.
